About the Print

Color Etching from the Pierres D'Ombre portfolio, Signed in pencil by Dorny. The portfolio consisted of 5 color etchings and was published by La Mata Editeurs, Paris, in 1974.

About the Artist

Bertrand Dorny was born July 2, 1931 in Paris where he died on 19 June 2015. Painter in his debut, curious different creative techniques, he learned engraving. This technique became the preferred means of expression and, subsequently, the basis of his future research. The work engraved Dorny currently comprises about 650 boards. A first catalog raisonné of his graphic work from 1967 to 1980 was published in 1981 by Editions Sources in Paris with Bernard Gheerbrant blurb.

Based on his experiences of engraving, Dorny, particularly attracted to poor materials : driftwood, cardboard, used or rejected papers, etc., has made ​​collages, folded papers, "topomorphoses" (wood-reliefs), and very large panels driftwood assembled. His collages inspired by Bernard Noël, The Romance of paper, art book published by editions Ubacs in 1989.

After drawing teacher at the Académie de la Grande Chaumiere, Dorny taught printmaking at the School of Fine arts in Paris from 1975 to 1979. he was a member of the Society of French Painters-Engravers and company of the Young Contemporary engraving.

Since he ended his writer activity in 1991, he continued collages by thematic series ( "Display", "The Museum manipulated", "Architecture") and produced numerous books, with writers and contemporary poets.
